Signiplant

Our devices flash, beep and vibrate in our pockets and hands. We have to click away alerts. In the future, with the Internet of Things, the abundance of information will increase and it is even more important that we decide for ourselves how and on which signals we want to pay attention. Indoor plants actively improve the indoor climate through photosynthesis and the binding of suspended particles. In contrast to a real plant, the Signiplant passively cleans the air by helping us to ventilate optimally. The plant is connected to air sensors in the home and the weather service and signals the best time to ventilate the room based on outdoor and indoor air quality. The Signiplant uses shape memory alloy wires to wave its leaves noiseless. We can easily ignore this notification as it unobtrusively happens in our peripheral attention.

Created during Wintersemester 2016/2017 in the class for Interface- and Interactiondesign at UdK Berlin by Prof. Kora Kimpel.
